Doodle I made to keep me awake during linear algebra class last semester.

To me, yin-yangs are a sort of personal symbol. I’m contradictory in so many ways, and sharp duality for me is a way of life that I’ve had to learn to accept, and later to embrace. It’s surprisingly difficult trying to reconcile a love of art with a love of math and science. Holy identitiy crisis, batman! So, not being able to settle for one or the other as most people seem to be able to,  I’ve come to see my “identity” as one of opposites.

Watercolor, sharpie, ballpoint pen, looseleaf paper in Moleskine journal.

Painting of the song “Let’s Make Love, and Listen to Death from Above” by CSS.

Not very happy with the way it turned out. I’ve been having issues trying to draw on gesso and have the line come out clean. Finally found a pen that seemed to do the trick, but when I  went to paint it a few hours later…well, as you can see it smudged. A LOT.

…any suggestions? Sharpies seem to work well, but the little ones dry out very quickly and  the thick ones are…well, thick!

Otters to me have always symbolized playfulness, a carefree spirit, and laughter. They’ve always been one of my favourite animals. :)

Decided to paint this after watching Coraline. I wanted to make sure my eyes hadn’t turned to buttons!

Focus on individuality, finding my high school self. Also hoped to capture energy, an openness to having more fun, and a more carefree nature.
